Keeping the world's merchant marine on course
For over 100 years Nautisk Forlag has supplied maritime charts and publications to the merchant marine. From its Norwegian roots it has grown to become the third largest company of its kind in the world, serving shipping companies from Singapore and China to the US and Europe. It is an official distributor for the hydrographical offices of the UK, US, Norway, Sweden and Denmark and holds extensive stocks of all charts and publications necessary for ocean-going vessels, both in paper and electronic formats.
On-board safety is becoming more and more important, as cited in SOLAS and the ISM Code. To be in compliance, ships must have an updated library of charts and other relevant publications on board. This isn’t so easy when revisions are made every week, if not every day, which is why more and more companies rely on Nautisk Forlag’s revision service. A sophisticated IT system allows a complete inventory to be maintained of all publications and charts held by any one vessel and revisions sent, electronically or by express courier, as soon as they occur. Vital dispatches late at night or in the early hours of the morning are not uncommon, demanding that staff are on 24-hour stand-by.
Nautisk Forlag is the largest distributor of charts, maritime books and publications to pleasure craft owners in Norway. From its well-stocked shop in the centre of Oslo it serves the whole country with over-the-counter, mail order and online sales. In fact, its website is taking an increasing share of the business as users log on to read book reviews, use its trip-planner and review its 10,000 plus range of products, including a wide selection of navigational equipment.
